Marie a été précédée dans la mort par son époux Olier, ses parents Joseph et Clémentine (Dionne) et ses frères et sœurs Marguerite, Jean, Denis et Simone, snjm, ainsi que de nombreuse beaux-frères et belles-sœurs.
Née à Letellier, Marie commence sa vie adulte comme enseignante. C’est durant son année à l’école de Saint-Léon qu’elle rencontre son futur mari, Olier. Les époux s’établissent sur la terre paternelle et font grandir la ferme au fil des années pour inclure la production de semences pédigrées et un poste de criblage. Marie est femme de cultivateur et maman à temps plein. Lorsque les enfants fréquentent tous l’école, Marie s’active dans la communauté : comité de parents, souper paroissial, correspondante à La Liberté, et comité culturel, tour à tour. Elle participe à la création du journal Le Montagnard auquel elle contribue des articles pendant plus de 30 ans. Elle et Olier sont d’ardents défenseurs du fait français, tant à Saint-Léon qu’à travers la province. En 2013, la Société de la francophonie manitobaine remet à Marie le Prix Riel en reconnaissance de la contribution d’une vie au développement de la communauté.
Marie, au caractère digne et à l’esprit curieux, était avant tout une femme dévouée à sa famille et à sa communauté. Grande croyante et fervente chrétienne, elle devint une leader laïque à l’église. Elle a passé sa vie à servir la communauté tout en se dévouant à sa famille. « Memère était une femme calme, curieuse, dévouée et aimante. C'était une femme de peu de mots, mais qui "parlait" fort par son exemple. » Elle a inculqué chez ses enfants et petits-enfants la beauté de la nature, le service, l’éducation, la langue et la culture française, et la valeur du travail.
La célébration des funérailles ont lieu à l’église de Saint-Léon, à 11 h 00, suivi de l’inhumation et d’un lunch communautaire.

Marie Carmelle Labossière of Saint-Léon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at Foyer Notre Dame on March 14, 2024, at the age of 90.
She is survived by her children Luc (Lucille Dufresne), Francine (Daniel Benson), Agnès (late Fernand Grenier), Natalie (Ben Nind), Stella, and Colette (Gérald Deroche); her grandchildren Mylène (Paco), Réjean (Jaycee), Renelle (Lucas), Adrien (Brittany), Victor, Georges, Louis, Louis-Félix (Riana), Marie-Ève (Jonathan), Ian and Julien; and her great-grandchildren Mya, Damian, Kenzley, Xander, Everleigh, Alexandre and Xavier.
She also leaves her brothers and sisters Henri, Gérard, Marie-Thérèse Lévesque, Aline Durand, Noëlla Barnabé, Cécile Damphousse, Irène Régnier, Madeleine Dionne, and sisters-in-law Yvette (Armand) Rioux, Monique Damphousse and Jacqueline Doré (Dr. Sylvio Labossière).
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Olier, her parents Joseph and Clémentine (Dionne) and her brothers and sisters Marguerite, Jean, Denis and Simone, as well as a number of her brothers and sisters-in-law.
Born in Letellier, Marie began her adult life as a teacher. It was during her year at school in Saint-Léon that she met her future husband, Olier. The couple settled on his family farm and over the years expanded it to include pedigreed seed production and a seed cleaning plant.
Marie was a dedicated mother and farmer's wife. With the children attending school, Marie became actively involved in the community whether it was as a member of the parents' committee for the school, or cooking for a parish supper, or as correspondent for La Liberté or sitting as part of the community cultural committee,she was always active.
Marie also helped found the newspaper Le Montagnard, to which she contributed articles for over thirty years. She and Olier were ardent defenders of French language and culture both in Saint-Léon and across the province. In 2013, the Société de la francophonie manitobaine presented Marie with the Prix Riel in recognition of her lifetime contribution to community development.
Marie, with her dignified character and inquisitive spirit, was above all a woman devoted to her faith, family and community. A fervent Christian, she became a lay leader in the church. She spent her life serving the community while devoting herself to her family. Marie was a calm, generous mother, instilling in her children and grandchildren the love for the beauty of nature, education, the French language and culture, and the value of hard and honest work.
Funeral Service will be held at the St. Léon Roman Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 followed by a community luncheon at the Community Hall.
