The story has been brought forward to this site as follows:
Adam, with his brothers Robert, John and William, came to North America on a sailing ship. He lived in Philadelphia for 2 years but did not like the way the Americans spoke about the Queen so he came to Ontario, Canada. He settled and farmed for 38 years near Kincardine, Ontario. On November 5, 1866 he married Mary Ann Boal. She was born in Glengarry County, Ontario April 29, 1845. They had 10 children.
In 1900 the family (Adam, Mary Ann and 6 of their children) left Kincardine due to hard times on the farm and the drive to settle new lands in the west. They travelled to Manitoba by horse drawn waggon. They first lived on a homestead north of Dauphin, improving the land. In 1903 they moved on to Hamiota as the land was better and there was little bush to remove to create productive fields.
Adam was a life long member of the Orange Order.
