DR. STANLEY ERNEST KOLT BORN: AUG 23, 1929, DATE OF PASSING: SEP 22, 2012; Dr. Stanley Ernest Kolt, born August 23, 1929, in Winnipeg, passed away peacefully in the company of his family at St. Boniface Hospital on September 22, 2012, just after midnight, four months after being diagnosed with cancer. Many thanks to devoted St. Boniface hospital staff who took care of him during the last few weeks of his illness. Stanley was predeceased by his father Joseph, and mother Helen. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carmen, his siblings Libbie, Sophie, Adela, and Robert, and by his sister-in-law Sister Dolores Lavoie. Six children and 13 grandchildren also mourn his passing: Mark (Crystal), grandchildren Julian, Katryn and Brandon (Flin Flon); Alain, (Cam), grandchildren Cara, Mitchell, Mackenzie and Daniel, great-grandchild Isabella (Morden); Dolores (Kevin), grandchild Ryan (Winnipeg); Glenn (Noella), grandchildren Benoit and David (Winnipeg); Marielle (Keith), grandchildren Katelyn and Kristin (Winnipeg); and daughter Lysianne (Minneapolis). Stanley was raised with strong values of faith, family, and education, and developed an abiding interest in music, all of which he has passed on to his large family. Stanley pursued academic studies in science and education at the University of Chicago, University of Manitoba and University of North Dakota with several degrees culminating in a Doctorate in Education. He was active for many years in the Winnipeg School Division as a teacher, consultant, and administrator and always enjoyed meeting former students and teaching colleagues. He participated extensively in several organizations, including as a member of the Board of the Manitoba Teachers' Society; As past president, board representative and lifelong member of the St. John Cantius Fraternal Aid Society; As past president and board representative of Czas, the Polish language newspaper, and as member of the Knights of Columbus. Stanley had a keen interest in and enjoyed discussing theology. His favorite writers included Saint Thomas Aquinas, Teilhard de Chardin and Karl Rahner. His faith also expressed itself through his time as a chorister and parishioner of St. Andrew Bobola parish, and, for over 25 years, through daily mass together with his wife Carmen at the House of Peace (former Franciscan Priory). Stanley enjoyed and spent much time with children and grandchildren at his cabin at Albert Beach, and especially through the late 1960s and early 1970s, loved to travel with his family. He had a strong interest in photography, and frequently spent evenings showing slides of family and other subjects of interest to him. Finally, his children and many of his grandchildren carry on Stanley's love of melody (especially opera) through singing and instrumental music pursuits of their own. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will occur at St. Andrew Bobola Church, 541 Marion Street, on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held afterwards at Précieux Sang Hall, 200 Kenny Street.
