Rick Dondo's Family Tree
Speier Colony Cemetery, Lajord, Regina Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada
Notes:
The cemetery is located on SE 35-15-16 W2 in the RM of Lajord. A group of Russian-German Roman Catholic immigrants associated with the Rastadt/St Peter Colony purchased land near this cemetery to form the Speier Colony in 1901. They established a satellite chapel of Saint Peter’s congregation located at the original colony site further west (see Saint Peter's Cemetery).
The chapel was eventually closed, the building moved away, and the Speier Colony Cemetery is all that remains. The cemetery is now maintained by local volunteers from St Peter’s Heritage Society of Kronau, SK.
The location of graves and memorials dedicated to the memory of various people identified on the tree who come onto it through marriage or many marriages.
In the event you have such an interest, your host suggests you can look for these and other memorials in this cemetery on one of the many on-line services offering catalogues of graves.
All corrections, additions, questions, and observations are welcome.
