<p>Cornelius Bendera was born on September 24, 1876 in Chmielsiska, Austria. Tekla was born on January 18, 1882 in the village of Mowchanivka. Tekla and Cornelius were married in Chmieliska on November 8, 1900. Not long after, they left for Canada with Tekla's parents, Gregory and Pearl Matchizen. They arrived in Manitoba in March of 1901. In January of 1902, Cornelius was able to buy his own homestead in Thalberg, Manitoba.</p><p>Tekla and Cornelius were deeply religious and raised their family to lov God. Cornelius was instrumental in raising money to build St. Peter and Paul Church in Thalberg, and donated the first $200.00 to the fund. Later, Tekla contributed the money used to buy the crusifix and basin that hold the holy water at the entrance to the church. </p><p>Cornilius and Tekla raised elevan children and saw ten of them happily married. They were pleased to give their blessing to Justinain 1938 when she entered a novitiate of The Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate. Tekla and Cornelius were happy toghether and lived long enough to see their many dreams fullfilled.
