Baldur is the seat of this Rural Municipality in Southern Manitoba. It was incorporated on 15 August 1881, and is named after John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, (Marquis of Lorne; 1845-1914), son-in-law to Queen Victoria, who was the fourth Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
Its borders have changed through the decades as population increased within its borders and in the environs.
