It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "LAURENT SYRENNE, 06-Nov-1939 - 20-Jun-2023; With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Laurent “Mon Oncle Fatty” Syrenne, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.".
Left to cherish his memory is Monique (Robert) Senecal and Lynne (Richard) LeBlanc; grandchildren Natalie, Joanne, Julie, Mathieu, Megan and Grace; his brother Rene; sister-in-law Marlene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his best friend and partner, Eva Dureault; his parents Marguerite and Emile Syrenne; his sister Aline (Louis) Dureault; his brothers Gilles Syrenne and Camille (Marguerite) Syrenne; and his sister-in-law Anne-Marie Syrenne.
Laurent was born November 6, 1939 in Fannystelle MB. Anyone born and raised in Fannystelle soon acquired a nickname for life. As was tradition, Laurent was given the nickname “Fatty”. By the age of fifteen, he was a full-time grain farmer and was responsible for 1200 laying hens. He was a self-taught mechanic, plumber, electrician, welder, and an excellent carpenter. These “Jack of all trades” served him and his family well. In the 1970’s he became a bus driver and a mechanical assistant for the White Horse Plain School Division.
He loved the outdoors enjoying many fishing and hunting trips with the 5 and 1 bus or with his motorhome to Grand Rapids, Steeprock, Anama Bay and Riding Mountain. You could always rely on Fatty for ensuring the group was fully supplied with gear, burgers, salted minnows and gas. His appreciation for nature has ensured that another generation will fight mosquitoes, respect wildlife, take care of trees, plant tomatoes and tend to the flowers.
Living in Fannystelle, Fatty created many fond memories for all who dropped by. Ski-dooing, harvesting the crops and working with the old equipment always brought joy to all. Siblings, extended family, and friends all enjoyed visits on the farmstead.
Fatty and Eva moved to Winnipeg in 2006. This move allowed them to enjoy fun times with the grandchildren playing cards and attending all their events. We will forever cherish our memories of mon oncle Fatty qui s’assurait toujours que le Père Noël venait nous visiter.
Up to his last days, he was still fixing soffits, repairing dishwashers, staining decks, making tourtières, preparing green relish and taking Sunday drives back to Fannystelle.
His kindness to strangers and willingness to help was proof of his devotion to others before himself. He had gentle strength, was humble, yet decisive. He never asked for much and persevered through life’s many struggles.
The family would like to thank Dr Prodan, Dr. Kroeker and Dr. Cho for numerous years of dedicated care.
As per Fatty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
Donations may be made to the Fannystelle Cemetery, in form of a cheque made out to: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Box 67, Fannystelle MB R0G 0P0”
There’s a tear in my beer,
Cause I’m crying for you dear,
You are on our lonesome heart.
