Janine (née Brick) Vigier, January 21, 2022; Last year, Janine reminded us that she had bought her wedding dress at Eaton's for $40. Memory was fading, yet Janine vividly remembered the start of her loving marriage with Guy that lasted 72 years until her death in the early morning hours of January 21, 2022 one day shy of her 90th birthday.

Guy and Janine started their married life in Cardinal before moving to the farm where they raised their family, and where today a third generation of Vigier children still have run of the yard. At 18 and 19 years old, it's fair to say that Janine and Guy grew up together while finding their way as parents and partners in life, trying always to model loving kindness and respect.

In 1970, Janine trained as a nurse, living and studying in Winnipeg until she returned home with a snow-white nurse's cap that marked the start of a long nursing career first at the hospital in Swan Lake then in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, and later in Saint Boniface.

In 1974, Guy and Janine moved outside of Winnipeg, taking with them the home they'd built on the farm and that Janine refused to leave behind. Throughout there were travels to Mexico, France, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, California, and New York where she loved the museums, the Broadway shows, the opera, and shopping trips to Macy's.

Janine is survived by Guy, her husband of 72 years, her children Charlotte (Don Segal†), Rachel (David Koosis), Guy (Thuy), and André (Cheryl, her field companion); grandchildren, David (Angelmarie), Sarah and Emma, Rebecca, Tavis (Tahnea), Dylan (Leiah), great-grandchildren Alec and Flora (who made a surprise visit one day outside Memère's window); her sister Lorraine and niece Josanne in France, and her brother Gérald (Sharon). She was preceded in 1988 by brother Hubert, daughter Micheline, and in 2011 by son-in-law Don.

The family is grateful to Charlotte, André, and Cheryl who cared for Janine and were with her until the end when we all could not be there and to the staff at the Foyer Notre Dame who made family visits possible during trying circumstances.

So come, my friends, be not afraid.

      We are so lightly here.

It is in love that we are made

      In love we disappear

      -Leonard Cohen

      -Leonard Cohen
