In loving memory of René Joseph Albert Chanel who left his family too soon at the age of 55 on August 7, 2022.

René leaves behind to go on, his mother Rolande (Bosc) Chanel, his wife Anne-Marie (Poitras) Chanel, his children André (Jaclyn) Chanel, Nathalia Chanel (Félix-Antoine Janelle) and the light of his life, his grandson Jasper Chanel.

He also leaves to mourn his untimely passing his siblings, Eugene (Arlene) Chanel, Monique (Chuck) Holatko, Marc (Jackie) Chanel, Gilbert (Jeannine) Chanel, and Lorraine (Randy Ostberg) Kuzyk.

He will also be remembered by his mother-in-law Odette Deleurme-Poitras (Bruno Bandiera), his step mother-in-law Barbara (Dutchin) Poitras, his sister-in-law Giselle Poitras (Mark Carleton), his brother-in-law Daryl (Rachelle) Poitras, his step brother-in-law Brian Dutchin (Kelly), as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including his Headingley “family.”

René was predeceased by his son Matthew Chanel (1995), his father Guy Chanel (2011), and his father-in-law Walter James Jr. (Pete) Poitras (2007).

René was a joyful person and enjoyed life on his own terms. René and Anne-Marie enjoyed 36 wonderful years together growing their family. He was immensely proud of his children and no words can describe the love he had for his children and his lil’ buddy, Jasper. You would often hear René bragging to family and friends the accomplishments his children achieved in their life.

Jasper was the heart and soul of his life. He never missed an opportunity to FaceTime or see Jasper in person. He would often be seen walking along with Jasper while he drove his jeep. He was teaching Jasper to fish and drive the Pontoon. He was blessed to spend time with Jasper every weekend either camping or sleepovers in Treherne.

René moved to British Columbia in 1987 to be with his soulmate. René and Anne-Marie were married in 1989. At the time that they started their family they felt it would be better to raise them in a rural setting therefore, the move to Notre Dame de Lourdes in 1994. After their children had graduated, they made the move to Winnipeg in 2016.

During René’s time in Notre Dame de Lourdes, he was employed by Comte Industries. Upon his move to Winnipeg, he joined the CleanAir Team where he was still employed up until his passing.

René was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed a quiet life. René was also known by many as an amazing cook. René enjoyed cooking for anyone and everyone and we will definitely miss his steaks.

What can I say chou, you are my soulmate, my heart and my forever partner. The day you left me, my heart and soul travelled with you to meet those you loved dearly in the afterlife.

Fly free honey, until we meet again.
