ANGELINE ARNST (MATTHES), BORN: MAY 25, 1913, DATE OF PASSING: SEP 26, 2006; Peacefully on September 26, 2006 at Concordia Hospital, our dear Mom and Nanny, at the age of 93 years went to be with her Lord. She leaves behind her loving son Garry Arnst and his wife Barb; her loving daughter Marilyn Hook and her husband Brad; and her grand-children, Darrell, Tara and her partner Faisal, Jeffrey and Justin; her sister Ella Drinkle; her brother Ken Matthes and his wife Naomi; sister-in-law Jessie Boily; and many more family and friends. Mom worked for many years, first at the CPR Laundry and then at the Unemployment Insurance Commission, retiring in 1978. She was born on May 25, 1913 on McCalman Avenue in Elmwood and was soon after baptized and later confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, which would be a large part of her whole life. When her beloved husband Ernie passed away in January 1951, leaving her with a nine-year old and a baby, it was her family and her faith which kept her going. Mom has always been there for her friends, family and especially her children and grandchildren. We have been so blessed with her love and compassion. There was never a time we couldn't go to her with a problem or cry on her shoulder. She was precious to us and loved by not only her children but by all who were privileged to know her. Mom's favorite hymn was Lord Take My Hand And Lead Me . It was sung at her confirmation and these words would guide her throughout her life. It is only right to end this tribute to her with the last stanza: Lord when the shadows lengthen and night has come, I know that you will strengthen my steps toward home. And nothing can impede me O Blessed Friend, So take my hand and lead me unto the end. Funeral service for Angie will be on Friday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue with Pastor Richard Kruesel officiating. Viewing prior to the service. If friends so desire donations may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in her memory. Thank you God for the precious gift of our Mom and Nanny.
