Fille de Lucien Marchand et de Thérèse Pelletier, elle est née à Saint-Boniface le 25 août, 1927. La jeune famille Marchand, comprenant Renée, Laurette, Raymond, Denise, Lucille, Maurice, Hélène et Margot, suivait leur père, qui travaillait pour le Canadien Pacifique, à Rennie, Raith, Marquette, Saint-Claude, Redvers et Carman.
A huit ans, Laurette entre comme pensionnaire au couvent des Filles de la Croix à Saint-Adolphe. Puis c'est l'école des infirmières à l'Hôpital Général Saint-Boniface pour graduer en 1949. Les patients de Saint-Boniface, Meadow Lake et Redvers en Saskatchewan l'appréciaient beaucoup pour son dévouement. Le 29 juin 1957, elle épouse Georges de Moissac qui avait appris le métier de chef de gare avec son futur beau-père à Saint-Claude. Encore une fois, avec le chemin de fer, leur jeune famille grandit à Carberry, Macgregor, Tilston, Saint-Claude, Riverton et Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Devenue veuve beaucoup trop tôt avec le décès de Georges le 24 juillet 1976, Laurette se dévoue à élever sa famille. Femme de conviction, elle sut transmettre sa foi catholique et son amour de la langue française et de la musique. Des voyages de famille ainsi qu'un pèlerinage en Terre Sainte avec Claude vont agrémenter sa vie de dévouement. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses six enfants, Paul (Monique), Renée (Doug Winger), Claude (Michelline Lamontagne), Roseline, Jean, Danielle (Richard Alarie), ses huit petits-enfants, Pierre (Kheira Jolin), Nathalie, Serge, Sylvie (Laurent Levesque) et Jacques (Katrina Leclerc) de Moissac, Luc, Eric et Myriam Alarie ainsi que quatre arrière-petites-filles, Arianne, Leah et Isabelle de Moissac et Evelyne Levesque. Lui survivent aussi ses soeurs Lucille Bazin et Margot Degagné, et son frère Maurice (Lise).
En 1998 après avoir été veuve pendant 22 ans et ayant fini d'élever sa famille, elle rencontre George Cherlet, veuf à la retraite. Accueillie par la famille Cherlet, Len (Carmel), Ron (Freda), et Larry (Jillian) et leurs enfants, les jeunes époux ont la chance de voyager au Canada, aux Etats-Unis et en Europe. Après le décès de George le 13 février 2015, elle passe de la Villa Aulneau au Foyer Valade où, avec la démence, elle s'éteint petit à petit.
Les funérailles de Madame Laurette de Moissac-Cherlet auront lieu à l'église Saint-Eugène à Saint-Vital le vendredi 24 juin 2022 en commençant avec les prières à 10h, suivies par la messe de la résurrection. L'inhumation suivra au cimetière de Saint-Claude.
Les gens qui le désirent peuvent faire un don en sa mémoire à Actionmarguerite - Saint-Vital. La famille tient à remercier le personnel du Foyer Valade pour les excellents soins prodigués à notre maman et grand-mère au cours de ses dernières années.
LAURETTE DE MOISSAC-CHERLET
1927 - 2022
Mrs. Laurette de Moissac-Cherlet passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on June 7, 2022 at Foyer Valade nursing home in St. Vital.
Daughter of Lucien Marchand and Thérèse Pelletier, she completed nursing school at St. Boniface General Hospital in 1949 and worked in St. Boniface, Meadow Lake and Redvers, Saskatchewan. She married Georges de Moissac on June 29, 1957. Working for the Canadian Pacific Railway, they raised their six children in Carberry, Macgregor, Tilston, St. Claude, Riverton and St. Jean-Baptiste. Georges passed away suddenly on July 24, 1976; Laurette devoted herself to raising her young family. She is survived by her six children: Paul (Monique), Renée (Doug Winger), Claude (Michelline Lamontagne), Roseline, Jean, Danielle (Richard Alarie), her eight grandchildren, Pierre (Kheira Jolin), Nathalie, Serge, Sylvie (Laurent Levesque) and Jacques (Katrina Leclerc) de Moissac, Luc, Eric and Myriam Alarie and four great-granddaughters, Arianne, Leah and Isabelle de Moissac and Evelyne Levesque. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucille Bazin and Margot Degagné, and her brother Maurice (Lise).
In 1998, following 22 years of widowhood, Laurette married George Cherlet and was welcomed by his family: Len (Carmel), Ron (Freda) and Larry (Jillian) and their children. They enjoyed trips in Canada, the USA, and Europe together. George passed away on February 13, 2015.
The funeral will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. Eugène Church in St. Vital with viewing at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection. Burial will follow at the St. Claude Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Actionmarguerite - St. Vital in her memory. The family is very grateful to the staff for the wonderful care and support provided to our mother and grandmother.
