        The story has been brought forward to this site as follows:

        Malcolm, Donald and their sister Flora and families, left Scotland on the "Mars", from Tobermory, Isle of Mull in July of 1818. The Mars was the same ship that fought in the battle of Trafalger against Napoleon. It was common to use re-fillted war ships to transport emigrants to the colonies. The Mars left Tobermoray in either late June or early July and landed in Quebec City in September. The voyage took over nine weeks. The ship carried a total of 36 families, at least 5 were of the Baptist faith and the Elder Dougald Campbell travelled with them. It is believed that the Mars also landed at Pictou, Nova Scotia in August. Once in Quebec, the families travelled to Montreal by steamship, then on to Kingston by bateau and cart. Another boat took them across Lake Ontario to Queenston, then carts carried them to Fort Erie. From there they travelled by schooner across Lake Erie to Port Glasgow. An old resident of Aldborough recalled many years later that Donald McAlpine was a man of great str
