ROGER ARBEZ, BORN: SEP 11, 1933, DATE OF PASSING: DEC 04, 2020; At the Victoria General Hospital, Roger Arbez passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020. He was welcomed in Heaven by family members that predeceased him: his parents, Paul and Reine; his parents-in-law, Marcel and Marie; his sisters, Marie-Paule, Marie-Reine, Claudette; baby Maria and his brother Raymond, as well as his brothers and sister-in-law, Gérald, Roland and Thérèse.
An autobody mechanic by trade, Dad spent many years working at several autobody shops in Winnipeg. In the early 1980s, Dad started his own shop in Saint-Adolphe. Dad's repeat customers were a testament to his skill and his devotion to a job well done. He sold the business in 1988 to enjoy his retirement, during which he and Huguette enjoyed spending winters in Mesa and Palm Springs, with summers in the Lake of the Woods area. Family gatherings at Lucky Dog's cabin were filled with family and laughter. There was never an empty wine glass when Dad was around.
Papa était un pitouneur, un homme qui pouvait tout faire avec un morceau de bois et quelques clous. Un homme de famille au grand coeur, il était toujours prêt à rendre service. With his MacGyver skills and his generous spirit, he was always willing to help someone with a project. He loved spending time with his family, whether it was helping a brother-in-law with year-end inventory or devising carts with another, building a playland for his grandchildren at the lake, teaching his grandson how to golf, taking time to taste his granddaughter's sand pies or introducing one of his nephews to a king can of beer. His twinkling eyes and his sense of humour will not be forgotten.
We are forever grateful to the Victoria General Hospital and in particular to Kristen Jabbour, who was so helpful the day before Dad's passing. Nous tenons aussi à remercier du fond du coeur l'abbé Charles Fillion, qui nous a guidés en prières virtuellement le jour avant le décès de Papa et Léon Gagnon, qui a fait l'urne pour ses cendres.
Roger leaves to mourn his loving wife of 63 years, Huguette; his daughters, Patricia (Wylie) and Lynn (Kurt); his grandchildren, Justin (Laura), Alexa (Paul) and Matthias. Also mourning his loss are his siblings, Jeanine, Léon (Odile), Mireille (Kevin), George (Edith); his brothers-in-law, Paul and André; sister-in-law Elaine and several nieces and nephews.
In Dad's words,
"We'll see you later in the funny papers."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to La paroisse Saint-Norbert (Fonds de rénovation) 110 - 80 St. Pierre Street, Winnipeg, MB R3V 1J8 or to the Victoria General Hospital.
