NOTE: The above description may be truncated / shortened from the original Noted by the author as pertaining to events in St. Boniface, Manitoba on December 23, 1923 The story has been brought forward to this site as follows: Veronique, Amelia and Stella were admitted to the St. Boniface Manitoba Orphange on December 28, 1923.  Emile was admitted to the St. Joseph Orphanage in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 23, 1923.  This was because both their parents had died. Veronique, Amelia and Emile left the Orphanage on August 25, 1924. They went to live with various relatives in the area.  Stella, because she was only 5 years old, stayed at the Orphanage until October 13, 1932. She was 13 years old when she was allowed to leave.  She moved in with an elderly couple named Francois Guetre in St. Georges, Manitoba.  These orphanages were run by the Grey Nuns.  I have received copies of the records of each child from the Grey Nuns Archives in Montreal, Quebec where the records are kept. A. Fontaine (nee Desjarlais), aged 64 years, beloved wife of Wilfrid Fontaine of 514-187 Cathedrale Ave. Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Emile (Mel) and Solange of Winnipeg, Arthur and Patricia of Lac du Bonnet, Albert and Jeanne of Winnipeg and Ronald of Winnipeg; five daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Arthur Fredette of Lac du Bonnet, Alice and Wally Bilan of Campbell River, B.C., Lillian and William Taylor of Victoria, B.C., Adelle Fontaine and Glen Cromarty of Vancouver, B.C. and Isabelle of Winnipeg; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson; a brother Emile Desjarlais.
