REGIS LAURENCE JOSEPH GAUTHIER, BORN: APR 25, 1948, DATE OF PASSING: AUG 17, 2023; It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved husband, Dad and Pépère on July 17, 2023, at the age of 75 years.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, of nearly 51 years, Jacqueline; their children, Darcy (Heidi), Tyson (Bonnie), Jennifer (Jon) and Crystal (Cary); grandchildren, Aiden, Bronwyn, Kylee, Alanis, Morgan and Finley; step-grandchildren, Sarah and Zachary. He is also survived by his siblings, Solange Fontaine, Roland, Phillip (Simone), Annette Bisaillon, Robert (Susan), Lorraine (Denis) Saucier, Aurele, Lea (Jeff) Parsons, Claude (Bonnie), Ronald (Adele), Claudette (Randy) Gagnon, Gisele (Eduardo) Badescu; sisters-in-law Anita and Megan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He will also be remembered by his mother-in-law Simonne Meilleur and our mother’s brothers, sisters, their spouses and families.
He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Yvonne (née Chevrefils); his brothers, Zephyre, Roger, Eldege and Joseph; sisters, Jeannette Rennie and Delia Chouinard; brothers-in-law, Rosaire Bisaillon, Léo Chouinard and Emile Fontaine; sisters-in-law, Lonia and Isabel; nephew, Codin (Eddie) Badescu; father-in-law, Auray Meilleur and brother-in-law, Robert Wedensky.
Dad was born in Teulon and lived his entire life in Fisher Branch on the family homestead. He attended the one-room North Meridian School in his younger years, moving to the Fisher Branch Collegiate as a teenager. His early years were spent working on the family farm, whether it was milking cows before heading to school or harvesting crops in the fields.
He married the love of his life, Jacqueline, on July 29, 1972 and started their family. In 1982, after helping to renovate the house he grew up in, they settled into their new home. He purchased a septic tank cleaning business from his father-in-law and continued to service Fisher Branch and the surrounding communities for 37 years. Dad’s work ethic was beyond reproach and he never fully retired. For the last 24 years, he worked at Johnson Seeds, a job he truly enjoyed. His passion, however, was anything that had to be done outdoors and in particular, cutting and splitting wood in the yard and bush out back. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended Mass every Sunday with Mom, his faith being a very important part of his life. A true sports enthusiast, Dad was a pitcher with the Meridian Orioles and acted as assistant coach for one of his son’s minor hockey teams. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens, New York Yankees, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Our family is eternally grateful to Ron Dandeneau and the Fisher Branch R.C.M.P. for their assistance in our time of need.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Fisher Branch, followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad’s memory to the Immaculate Conception Parish, PO Box 364, Fisher Branch, MB R0C 0Z0.
