GERMAINE GIASSON
August 12, 1936 – November 20, 2024
On November 20th, 2024, we lost our angel, our rock, our beautiful mother Germaine Giasson.
As her family stood by her side, Jesus took her in his arms, ever so peacefully, ever so gently.
Her body was tired, her body was weak. She had assured us that she was ready to go home.
She was an above and beyond amazing mother who was selfless. Every breath she took was for her family. By example she taught us to be strong, reliable, and compassionate.
She was extraordinary. A grandmother who loved her 20 grandchildren 38 great grandchildren and her great, great grandchild.
Throughout her life she received many awards. She volunteered at Our Place, Chez Nous feeding the hungry, she gave her time with River Park Gardens Personal Care Home, sharing her love with the elderly, she volunteered at the St. Boniface Hospital working at the Gift Shop and reading to the sick. She was active in the St. Emile and Holy Cross Church helping with their food banks. She won Volunteer of the Year from the Stroke Association of Manitoba and volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program. She donated her blood regularly achieving the 50th and then 75th level accomplishments from the Canadian Blood Services before she could no longer donate.
Our mom was deeply devoted to her faith, constantly letting her kids and grandchildren know that she always remembered them in her prayers. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was playing cards, cooking together or fishing out at the lake. Her face would light up when she held her grandchildren. She spent hours handcrafting cards for those who were special to her.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, and we remember how much she enjoyed her time with her brothers and sisters.
Along with her late husband, Laurent she owned and operated a successful restaurant on Marion Street (The Big Wheeler Stop) for many years. She was an excellent cook.
We know that mom touched many hearts throughout her life. She always watched out for those who were in need and went out of her way to help the elderly when she could.
Germaine was predeceased by her husband of 42 years Laurent; her parents (whom she loved dearly) Albert and Helen Smith; and her granddaughter Richelle. Also passing before her were her sisters, Marguerite, Bertha, Yvonne, Annette; and her brothers, Lucien and Emile.
Left to remember her kind, feisty but gentle spirit are her children, Bernadette, Suzanne (Mike), Madelaine, Gilles (Roberta), Michel (Carol), Claudette (Keith), Gertrude (Dean), Lynn (Ken); as well as her 20 grandchildren Tanya (Steve), Kristie (Jordan), Courtney (Andrew), Michelle (Andrea), Sheri, Dwain, Tammy, Erin, Shawna (Kenny), Andrea (Marc), Janelle (Jean Paul), Craig (Stephanie), Alyssa (Sean), Kurtis (Stephanie), Zachary (Shayla), Taigen (Macy) and Zebediah.
Richelle was there to greet her.
From heaven she will be watching over all of them, as well as her great grandchildren and her great, great grandchild.
Our hearts break, our tears fall, yet we smile because we know she is dancing with our Father in heaven.
A mass followed by a luncheon will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 30th, at the Holy Family Church – 774 Archibald Street.
Germaine’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
