IRENE MARGUERITE MENARD (BERNARDIN), BORN: JUN 15, 1924, DATE OF PASSING: APR 21, 2010; It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Irene Menard on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish Irene's memory are her children, Maurice, Claire (Len), Louise (Gerry), Gilbert, Gerald (Shaunna), son-in-law Mick; eight grand-children, Michael, Jenny, Kimberley, Melissa, Ryan, Matthew, Jordan and Brennan as well as her siblings Julien, Omer (Lila), Gérard (Diana), Alphonse (Aurore), Solange (Omer), Lionel (Armande), Yvette, Eugène (Rolande), Céline (Edouard), Rolande (Marcel) and Marie Anne (Roy) plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Médéric in December 2009 and daughter Doris in April 2010. Irene was born in Elie, Manitoba to Edouard and Delia (Gervais) Bernardin in Elie, MB. She was a petite, hard-working woman with a big heart. She married Médéric Menard in September 1951. They began their married lives in Winnipeg but moved to St. Francois Xavier in 1959 where they resided until 2007. Irene stayed home to raise their six children until the youngest was in school. She worked outside the home from 1970 to 1987. Her latest employment before she retired was at White Horse Furniture in St. Francois Xavier where she worked as a pattern and upholstery cutter. Not only was Irene a great upholsterer; she was proficient with all needle crafts but she will mostly be remembered for her carpentry and woodcarving skills. She helped renovate their retirement home in St. Francois Xavier and built a few sheds well into her 70s. The last few years, Irene was a resident at St. James Kiwanis where she played pool, shuffle board, and cards. She will be greatly missed by all her new friends and her big family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant presiding.
