The daughter of Nellie and John Chorney, she was born in Selkirk (Walkleyburg), Manitoba on October 30, 1923. She married Peter Wasylik on June 5, 1947. As a couple they lived in Arborg, MB for 17 years and then in 1966 the entire family moved to Swan River, MB to own and operate the Twilight Motel until 1971. Stella acquired her Registered Nurse diploma from the Misericordia Hospital (Winnipeg) in 1945.
