STELLA CHORNEY (ZABORNIAK), BORN: MAY 16, 1929, DATE OF PASSING: AUG 28, 2021; It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandma and great-grandma, Stella Chorney in her 92nd year on August 28, 2021 at the Betel Personal Care Home.
Mom will be missed by her children, Colleen (Terry), Murray (Patti) and Susan (Gary); her grandchildren, Natalie (Gonzalo), Bradley (Jennifer), Cameron, Lana; and her precious great-grandchildren, Matias and Margo, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 2007 and many siblings, sibling-in-laws, brothers and sisters-in-law. Mom was the last of the Zaborniaks and Chorneys in her generation. What a polka-party they will have up in heaven!
Mom was born on May 16, 1929 to Bill and Mary Zaborniak. She grew up in the Highland Glen area and when she married Joe in 1947 (together they celebrated 60 years of marriage) they settled in East Selkirk where they homesteaded their farm which is still operating today. Mom took a lot of pride in working alongside Dad and was very capable in operating all the farm equipment. She logged hundreds (if not thousands) of hours on combines and tractors that were a far cry from the comfort of todays machinery. If she was not in the fields, she was working hard in her kitchen pumping out amazing meals to feed the hungry workers. The multi course feasts that came from her little stove in her little kitchen, whether for workers or for family gatherings are still legendary. Mom also loved her gigantic garden which was the basis of her good cooking. What wasn't fed to us fresh from the soil went into hundreds of jars to keep us nourished throughout the winters.
Special thanks to Dr. Brown and the staff at Betel Personal Care Home for their compassion, care and attention (especially Lindsey) to Mom.
Due to covid restrictions a private family graveside service will take place.
Pallbearers will be Mom's grandsons, Bradley, and Cameron, nephews Doug Chorney, Brian Chorney, Brian Kazuk and Maurice Burbella.
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
