      Elizabeth (Liz) Nicole’s adoption was finalized in 1969. Those were the days when you had to list the preferred religion when you gave up your child, she thought that there was a better chance of adoption among Protestant people but Liz only spoke French and they wouldn’t place her with somebody that couldn’t speak to her.

      At that time we had our 3 boys who were all 18 months apart and one was chronically ill. We wanted a girl desperately so we applied, we got Liz at the beginning of December 1965. After she turned 3 in January we had to get a Court Order for a religion change before they would finalize the adoption.


      Her Mother was one of the victims of mercury that affected the Grassy Narrow Band. It affected her mentally and she was placed in an institution where she was impregnated by one of the workers. We never received a lot of information on either the Mother who was .50 aboriginal an
