LORRAINE DEJONCKHEERE, DATE OF PASSING: MAR 07, 2017; On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, Lorraine Dejonckheere (nee Richaud) went on her journey to prepare for her everlasting life. She passed peacefully in her sleep from complications of blood clots. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn and Alison; grandchildren, Alex, Arianna, Janelle and Riley; her sisters Rita Tan (Nick), and Denise Trudeau (Roger); brothers Jean Richaud (Cassandra) and John Sirenn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Left also to mourn Lorraine are her very good friends Edouard Prairie and Marguerite Foubert. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Carl; her parents Joseph and Blanche (Cyrenne) Richaud; her sisters Celine and Helene; her mother and father-in-law, Oscar and Valentine (Nuytten) Dejonckheere. Lorraine was born in Eriksdale, MB. She did her early schooling in St. Laurent and her grade 12 at the Grey Nuns Convent Boarding School in St. Norbert. At the graduation dance, she met Carl Dejonckheere who became her escort as her prearranged escort did not arrive. She taught in a one room country school at La Fontaine School, East of Deerhorn; completed a Secretary / Stenographers course at Robertson's College; and worked in payroll at the St. Boniface Hospital. She married Carl in 1963, moving to a farm in East Selkirk. She continued to work, at a bank in Selkirk, until staying home to raise her girls and helping on the mixed livestock and grain farm. Lorraine was very active with her daughters in all their activities. driving them everywhere. She loved music, especially fiddle music; loved dancing to polkas, loved reading, family and her faith. Lorraine was a great hostess and loved having farm parties. She loved her huge gardens, canning and cooking. She was the organist for many years at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and was involved with the Catholic Women's League. In the last years of farming they operated a Raspberry U-Pick and sold corn and tomatoes in Winnipeg. They loved travelling and continued to travel after moving to Winnipeg. Lorraine was the glue in the family and loved having dinners at their house for any occasion. She really loved her grandchildren, making cookies and took pictures of every get together. She also liked to be involved in charity and became an active member of the Honduras Mission Circle. Carl died in 2007 and Lorraine eventually moved to L'Accueil Colombien in St. Boniface. There she played the organ and met many of the residents including Edouard and Marguerite. These friends made Lorraine's remaining years very happy ones and they were all very close. Lorraine also attended the St. Boniface Cathedral, took up 10 pin bowling, and went on weekly lunch outings. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 252 Dubuc St., Winnipeg, MB on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Chris officiating. Private inurnment of Lorraine's cremated remains will take place at the Green Acres Mausoleum at a later time.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 252 Dubuc St., Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. A full obituary will follow in Saturday's March 18, 2017 edition of the Winnipeg Free Press.
