It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Mom and Grandma, Nathalie Jacques on September 25, 2023 at the age of 97 years of age at Action Marguerite in St. Vital.
Nathalie will be lovingly remembered by her family. Left to mourn her passing are her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughters, Lilianne Foster (Lee) - David (Vanessa) Jack, Ryan; Matthew (Leah)-Thunder; Adam (Angie); Jackie Gaudette - Sandra, Bob (Marita), and sons Raymond and his family, Melanie (Kevin, Zander), Rochelle, Heydy Hernandez - Savannah, Javier, Camillo and Denis (Ardelle) – Stephanie (Trent) - Nicholas, Bennet; Keri (Chad)- Rain, Kian
She will also be greatly missed by her daughter-in-law Judy Jacques and her children Coral (Rene) - Owen, Gabriel, and Aimee and Jean Paul and her only surviving sister, Adrienne Troisfontaines as well as sisters-in-law, Laurette, Yvonne, and Cecile and numerous nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by her parents, Alexis and Marie Philippot, her siblings, Angele, Isabelle, Julien, Charles, Alexis, Henri, Joseph, Raymond, Louise, two sons, Bob and Norbert and grandson, Patrick.
Mom was born on March 10, 1926 in St. Claude, MB. As a young woman she and Adrienne came to the city and attended a training course at a convent in St. Boniface. Adrienne returned home while Mom pursued her religious studies and planned on becoming a nun. These plans changed and she eventually married Dad, Arthur Jacques on June 23rd, 1948.
While raising a large and busy family mom and dad moved several times and finally settled in Winnipeg. During this time Mom was working as a housekeeper at St. Boniface Hospital. She worked there until her retirement. She enjoyed her work outside the home and continued volunteer work at some of the nursing homes in the area during her retirement.
Her volunteer work still provided lots of time for some of her other favourite past times, among them being her routine visits to the “club”. We never heard about all her visits, only those when she won a few bucks. She never had a car but travelled by bus to many garage sales where she was forever purchasing fruit nappies and serving bowls and adding to her ever growing collection of broaches.
She took the opportunity to do some travelling with her sisters and friends during her early retirement years. They visited several spots in Canada, the United States, including Hawaii and Martinique.
In 1990, Mom and Dad went their separate ways. Mom found a new life and continued enjoying her volunteer opportunities in the community.
Mom was an exceptionally strong woman with a strong faith, who survived the loss of two sons, a grandson and her siblings. She had the innate ability to accept and adapt to the changes that life presented to her.
She had a lovely smile and enjoyed many good times with family and friends. She always welcomed a good hug. We can honestly say that she never gave up and was proud to have been able to live so many years.
We all loved her very much and will all miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Action Marguerite St. Vital (Foyer Valade) for the wonderful care Mom received while she was there.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice.
The funeral will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. The eulogy will be presented at 12:30 prior to the service. A private interment of the ashes will take place at a later date.
