It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "JENNY OSTRY (SYPOSZ), Date of Passing: May 17, 2003; Peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Concordia Hospital, Jenny Ostry, beloved wife of Gerald, passed away at 78 years of age with her family at her side. Jenny approached her valiant battle w".ith cancer as she approached her life...with an unwavering positive attitude. Her comment when diagnosed with cancer was "We will face this one day at a time". Jenny was predeceased by her father and mother, Michael and Rose Syposz, and older brother Casey. Left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Gerald; her brother Ted; her children, Tom (Anne), Gary (Debbie Hendsbee) and Maureen Luchsinger (Brian) and her grandchildren, Kathleen, Michael, Diane and Alison. Jenny will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her grandchildren had a special place in her heart and their faces would light up when Grandma came into the room. She was a gentle soul with an amazing kindness of spirit. Jenny felt her life was enriched by her warm relationships with family and friends, and she unconditionally offered her caring and generosity to others. She had a love of life, a great sense of humour and made every day count. Above all, her beautiful smile will always be remembered - it persevered until the very end and always shone through even during times of adversity. Jenny was born, educated and lived her life in Winnipegs north end. Gerald and Jenny first met in Grade 6 at Lord Nelson School and were ultimately wed on August 24, 1946. Their mutual love and respect for each other spanned 56 years of marriage. Jenny was an avid sports enthusiast: the captain of her high school volleyball team, an accomplished ten-pin bowler who developed many life-long friendships through the sport, a season ticket holder of the Blue Bombers for 52 years and of the Jets from day one. Collecting lapel pins was a passion and she treasured receiving pins from family and friends and sharing their memories and experiences. Jenny had a flair for word games and would assist friends in solving puzzles, even from the hospital. She had a love of travel and one of her highlights later in life was travelling throughout Europe. The family would like to acknowledge the considerate and loving care provided by the staff at Concordia Hospital, Dr. Pat Harris and long-time physician Dr. B. A. Gorski. A special thank you to Ats and Ted Odaguchi who buoyed Jennys spirits by their daily visits and to her life-long friend Lena Zywylo for her enduring support. The family would also like to thank all the many friends and family who visited and offered their well-wishes and prayers for her through this time. At her request, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Monsignor V. J. Bozyk will officiate. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of their choice. Mom will be missed more than words can express.
