DENIS GOBIN, 04-Jan-1938 - 10-Feb-2023; Peacefully with family by his side Denis Joseph Charles Gobin passed away at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB on Friday February 10, 2023 at the age of 85 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lenora, his sisters Yvonne, Annette and Lorraine, his wife Yvette and his son Marcel.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife Irene, sister Elise and brother Roland, his sons Norbert (Jackie), Ronald (Tracy), Charles (Lily), Robert (Liliane), Daniel (Jeanne), Michel (Lara), his grandchildren Bryan, Joshua, Robbie, Richard, Anne-Sophie, Jasmine, Samuel, Alicia, Emmett, Wyatt and Max, great grandchildren Neveah and Royal, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Denis was born and raised in St. Claude, MB. At the age of 21 he married Yvette (nee Durupt) and raised four sons. They lived and raised their family in Winnipeg until Denis retired from St. Amant Centre where he was the head groundskeeper. Dad had a passion for horticulture and he had the proverbial “green thumb”. They then purchased their “little paradise” in Roseisle where dad enjoyed his gardens. They were married 47 years until Yvette passed. Dad was also an avid outdoorsman, he loved being able to teach his sons everything he knew about hunting and fishing, camping and the quality time that it gave him with his family.
Denis and Irene met and were married in 2006 and the family grew from four sons to seven. They lived along the Red River in St. Boniface and enjoyed watching all the activities across the way, whether it was listening to the concerts at The Forks or watching the fireworks displays or the cheers of the ballgame. Denis and Irene enjoyed going to all the local and country dances, they could dance all night. He loved music, especially listening to the incredibly beautiful sound of the violin. They enjoyed travelling, he said it was incredible how beautiful everything was that he saw and experienced. He also considered himself somewhat of a wine connoisseur and enjoyed the many hours with his sister Elise making wine.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday February 25th, 2023 at St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 Av de la Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gabriel Levesque attending. Internment to be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach and the team at Villa Youville in Ste. Anne for their amazing care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
