      It is described as "Rolande-Chanel".

It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "Rolande Chanel (née Bosc), February 17, 1928 ~ February 12, 2024 (age 95); Just 5 days short of her 96th birthday our dear mother passed away peacefully at the Foyer Notre Dame. She lived a very full and fruitful life, and her family was always a".t the center of her world.

Rolande leaves behind her children, Eugene (Arlene), Monique (Charles Holatko), Marc (Jackie), Gilbert (Jeannine), Lorraine (Randy Ostberg), daughter-in-law Anne-Marie and special godchild Nicole Chanel. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren which she loved equally. She could name and remember which month they were born well into her 90’s. She is survived by one brother Hubert (Therese) and one sister-in-law, Rolande Bazin. Our mom kept contact with many of her nieces and nephews over the years and truly enjoyed visits by any of them, always offering up coffee, a glass of wine no matter what time of day. Family meant everything.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Guy, son Rene, grandson Mathew, sister Eliane, brother Rene and their spouses. She was also predeceased by all of Guy’s other siblings and their spouses.

Mom grew up in Notre Dame de Lourdes and as a young adult decided to pursue a career in nursing and graduated from St Boniface School of Nursing in 1949. A young man by the name of Guy had captured her heart and they were married on November 10, 1951. Together they farmed outside Notre Dame de Lourdes and raised their six children. She was hired as the first nurse at Notre Dame Hospital and worked there for her entire career. Working as a nurse was a perfect fit as she was a very caring person.

Mom and dad enjoyed many years of travel together and in retirement, spent countless hours with their grandchildren. Once the great grandchildren came along, they were just as special. Our parents were instrumental in teaching us all how to be good parents, how family came first and foremost as the most important thing in life.

Mom was a scrabble player extraordinaire, and she also loved playing cards with relatives and friends. Taking a drive to any casino was always a treat. She enjoyed reading the Free Press and doing the daily jumble, crossword and of course the Sudoku. Mom and dad challenged each other in scrabble and cribbage games. They’d tally scores and circle the winner and keep track over time who won more games. She was competitive but not boastful.

Her memory was sharp well into her 90’s, she spoke her mind and held pretty strong opinions on certain subjects. Her last few years at the Foyer were hampered by Covid, which affected her ability to have ongoing contact with family and her health started to fail. The family is so thankful for all the wonderful staff at the Foyer who provided her with compassionate care in her last years.

Memorial donations can be made to Foyer Notre Dame Recreation Department. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to: Foyer Notre Dame, Box 190, Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB, R0G 1M0 Please write Donation Recreation in memory of Rolande Chanel.
