It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "FRANCES MARY OBIREK (KOLEY) (WAZNY), DATE OF PASSING: AUG 15, 1907; Peacefully on November 1, 2009, at the age of 102, Frances Mary Obirek passed away at Bethania Personal Care Home. Frances was born August 15, 1907 in Melrose, MB, one of eight chi".ldren to Andrew Wazny and Mary Rozmus. She was predeceased by her first husband Albert and her second husband John. She was also predeceased by her infant daughter, three stepchildren, Andrew, Stanley and Helene, brothers, Peter and Paul, sisters, Carrie, Rose, Mary, Bernice and Pauline, daughter-in-law June and precious grandsons, Wayne and Barry. Left to cherish her are her sons, Walter (Jane), Leonard and Ruby, Bernard (Elizabeth) and Lawrence (Linda), 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews. She touched every one of our lives in a different way and will always be lovingly remembered. Frances worked hard most of her life, she began as a governess in her teens and then married at a young age. She cared for her seven children; she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very religious and prayed the holy rosary everyday. Family and friends were the most important people in her life. She was very content, mild mannered, patient and a caring individual. It was evident in her later years by how her sons and family cared for her every need. She loved her garden and small hobby farm when her children were growing up in North Kildonan, always a crowd of family and relatives out on Sunday drive popping in and staying for dinner, her door was always open. Her favourite pastime was cooking, knitting slippers (same pattern for all) and playing cards. She was famous for her borscht, chicken noodle soup (noodles from scratch hung everywhere to dry). Frances loved to travel with family, which included Hawaii, Mexico, Barbados, Italy, Toronto, Vancouver, Florida, California, Las Vegas, etc. She looked forward to her summers spent with her son's families at Grand Beach, Winnipeg Beach and Falcon Lake. She enjoyed her many years helping at Walter and Jane's Restaurant in Sandy Hook. The family looked forward to the Koley Klassic Golf Tournament and barbeque held every August, which included a birthday celebration for grandma. She would sit and watch the excitement around her and could be seen beaming with pride and joy when surrounded by her family. Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother will be forever cherished and adored in memory. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their exceptional care and compassion while she resided there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m with Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with an Oblate Father as celebrant assisted by Br. Pierre Wood, O.F.M., Cap. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
