Denis was born on July 1, 1935 in Bruxelles, Manitoba to Antoine and Guillemine Lecoq. He resided around the Treherne area where he attended St. Urbain School. Denis married Marie-Josephe Durand in 1960. Together they built a home in Holland, Manitoba where they lived for seven years while Denis owned and operated the Holland Transfer. In 1967, Denis sold the Transfer and he and Marie moved to Glenboro, Manitoba where they started farming. Over the next seven years, Denis and Marie completed their family with the addition of four children. Denis decided on a career change and in the early 1980s, he began working in sales starting with agricultural machinery before moving into agricultural input sales. In 1988, Denis and Marie moved to Teulon, Manitoba where Denis continued to work in this capacity until his retirement. It was in retirement that Denis’ love of gardening began and flourished. He began market gardening alongside his beloved Marie and the two of them loved to sell their wares at many markets in the Interlake area. Denis and Marie decided to sell their acreage and move into Winnipeg in 2016.
Denis loved to keep active and never missed an opportunity to shoot some billiards, play some cards or go old time dancing. He and Marie spent many winters in Osooyos, BC where they met many like-minded friends. These friendships continued beyond the winters and they both love travelling across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta to visit their snowbird family. When Denis and Marie celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2010, the Teulon hall was filled with their Osoyoos friends that came from far and wide to help them celebrate their big day. Denis was always happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Cemetery Service being held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. with Father Armand Le Gal presiding.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville for the care and compassion Denis received while there.
