      JOSEPH PREACHUK, BORN: SEP 26, 1912, DATE OF PASSING: NOV 04, 1999; Peacefully on November 4, 1999 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital with his family by his side, Joe passed away at the age of 87. Joe was predeceased by his wife Anne (nee Sklanka) in 1984; his father Nicholas; mother Matrona and stepfather William Stolar; his brother Alex and twin siblings, John and Josephine, who died in infancy. He was born in Norris Lake, Man. on September 26, 1912 and attended the Boys Home Residential School in Teulon. He began working at a very young age. In 1927 he moved with his family to St. Andrews and in 1939 settled on Lot 25 St. Andrews where he resided until his passing. In 1941 he married Anne Sklanka and raised five children. They were married 43 years and had a rich and interesting life together. Joe farmed in St. Andrews and also worked for R. Litz and Sons and for 15 winters cutting pulp in bush camps in Ontario. He served his community in the capacity of Municipal Councillor for Ward 1 for 22 years. He was on many committees including the Selkirk and District Hospital Board. He enjoyed curling, hunting, travelling and in his later years playing cards with friends and family. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Tom (Ursula), Jerry (Mary-Anne), Art (Debbie) and Ron (Christine) and daughter Marion Joyce (Grant Dunfield). Grandpa will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Christopher (Merrilee), William (Debbie), Garry (Christine), Jennifer (Wade), Heather, Allison, Jeff, Paula, Steven, Trevor, Erin, Amanda and Jessica. He had a special place in his heart for his three great-grandchildren, William, Michaela and Oksana. You were the center of our universe, always there for us and we shall miss you with all our hearts. He is also survived by two brothers, Philip Stolar (Dora) and John Stolar (Ella) two sisters, Lena Kotowich (Mike) and Mary Boch (Walter) sister-in-law Rose Preachuk; brother-in-law Bill Sklanka and many nieces, nephews and friends. Prayers will be said on Monday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Deacon Stefan Tyrawski officiating. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossdale with Fr. Ihor Royak officiating. Interment in the Holy Family Cemetery, Rivercrest. His six grandsons will be his pallbearers. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. A. Wozney who provided him many years of exceptional care, and the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and Selkirk Home Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg. "Good honest hard work, not worrying about the little things and enjoying life to the fullest has helped me through my 87 years - and I suggest you do the same." Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
