      It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "KAY GALKA (WAZNY); Born: Feb 08, 1926, Date of Passing: Jan 27, 2018; It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Kay Galka, after a brief illness on January 27, 2018 at the Betel Home in Selkirk, at the age of 91 y".ears. She will be dearly missed by her children, Elaine (Terry), Michael (Patti), Cathy (Glenn), Janice and Robert; grandchildren, Travis and Carrie; sisters, Jean Cook and Helene Medeiros. Mom was predeceased by her husband Victor; parents, John and Josephine Wazny; brothers, John, Frank, Michael, Martin, Steven, Joe, Casmir and Eddie and sister Mary. Mom was born in Melrose, Manitoba on February 8, 1926, the first girl and the eighth of twelve children. A child of the great depression, Mom grew up quickly helping her parents with chores on the farm and looking after her little sisters and brothers. At age 16, Mom went to Winnipeg to work in a sewing factory. Our mother was a wonderful seamstress and spent many patient hours sewing for her girls and teaching them the tricks of the trade. The lure of a handsome young man brought mom back to the farm. She married our father Victor Galka on June 10, 1950 and made their home in Melrose. Our parents worked hard to provide a better life for their children. They worked as a team. On the farm she maintained her garden for over 60 years and canned and preserved vegetables. After milking the cows, she would make butter, cream and cottage cheese. Although her chores filled her day, she still found time to raise her five children. Our mother was a hard working, patient, kind and humble woman, always taking care of everyone else before herself. Our house was always welcome to our friends and we always wondered how she put up with our motorcycles, loud music and parties. We will miss her dearly. Special thanks to the staff at Betel Home for their care during our mom's brief stay. Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Interment will take place at St. Michael's Parish Cemetery in Cooks Creek at a later time. seasonsfunerals.ca

Victor was born in Melrose, Manitoba"., where he grew up, married Kay and raised his family. He took much pride in working in construction for over 46 years, along with working on his farm. In his younger days, he loved to entertain and enjoyed a good card game. Victor and Kay both worked extremely hard and always set a good example for their children. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Anastasia; a brother, Walter; and sisters, Nellie, Frances, Emily, Jenny and Henrietta. Victor will be greatly missed by his wife Kay of 57 years; children, Elaine (Terry), Michael (Patti), Cathy (Glenn), Janice and Robert; his grandchildren, Travis and Carrie; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, Manitoba, with Father Martin Bradbury officiating.
