DOROTHY OLIVE MAE SMITH, BORN: JAN 03, 1918, DATE OF PASSING: JAN 28, 2004; Peacefully on January 28, 2004, Dorothy passed away at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. She was born in West Bromich, England and came to Canada when she was eight months old with her mother Emily; father John; brothers, Alex and John and sister Ada, all of whom have predeceased her. She was raised on Carruthers Avenue, when it was simply known as The Prairie. She spoke often of her loving childhood. Dorothy met and then married John Smith on January 31, 1948. They enjoyed 40 years of marriage until he predeceased her in March 1989. They both enjoyed their West Kildonan home and summer home at Winnipeg Beach. In each place they loved to entertain family and friends. Although not blessed with children of their own they loved the company of all the little people in the family and they were loved immensely in return. Dorothy, affectionately known as Auntie, was a magnate for a great laugh, a good meal and stories about past and present. She loved her plants and crafts, but especially people. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothys memory to your favourite charity.
