I began doing this search for my Uncle George. He is the son of Onesime Bruneau and Aurise Bouvier.

At the time, there was a brick wall beyond Onesime. I set out to connect Onesime Bruneau to his Quebec ancestors.

Various census records his father as Alberiane, Alberu and Albert. I started from there.

Both documented "Proof" and circumstantial evidence point to the following:

Two brothers, Onezime and Zepherin Bruneau, emigrated to Minnesota from Quebec around mid 1880's. Another brother, Theophile moved to Manitoba same time frame.

Marriage records show that Onezime Bruneau was married in Quebec, to Celina Bellemare and Zepherin Bruneau was married to Marie Claire Georgeana McMurray.

Several children were born to Onezime and Celina while living in Quebec, including Joseph Elberic Bruneau. At least once, Zepherin served as Godfather at the baptism of Onesime's children.

Onezime Bruneau and some of his children later move to Manitoba (bet 1910-1916). Some return to Minnesota by 1930.

I believe the son of Onezime, Joseph Elberic married Angelina Bedard, most likely in Minnesota, and had 16 children, including the twins Onesime and Ernest.

Several lines of evidence and proof.

1) Patrick Bruneau, born Minnesota, stated on death record, that mothers maiden name was Bellemore. He is found on 1900 US Census, living with parents Onezime Bruneau and wife Celina. Proving that this couple were the one and same Quebec couple.

2) While Onezime Bruneau states on US Census that he was born New York, he states Quebec birth when living in Manitoba.

3) Several of the names of adult aged Bruneau men in Minnesota area are the same as older children of Onezime as shown on 1881 Canada Census. Philemen, Alberic, Omer. Although I have no marriage records, many listers cite the names Parmelia Bruneau and Hewidge Bruneau (Joseph Meilleur) as being spouses of men in Red Lake Minnesota area....These girls names are both recorded as being born to Onezime and Celina Bellemare in Quebec. Same dates of birth as shown on their census records.

4) Quebec marriage records for Onezime and Zepherin both declare them to be sons of Joseph (Ange) Bruneau and Flavie Trudel.

I have been able to document that family all the way back to France.

5) Baptism record exists for Joseph Elberic Bruneau St Damien, Quebec, July 1875 (same as declared on Alberic's 1900 US census), son of Onezime and Celina Bellemare.

6) Census records in Quebec Canada are silent on this family after 1881

7) Alberic went north to Manitoba at same time as Onezime, 1916 Canada Census.

8) In 1920, record of Onezime reaching Winnipeg, with his son Philemon Bruneau mentioned.

Marriage record of Alberic Bruneau to Angelina Bedard would obviously solve this riddle....I have not come across it. Have you?

Death record for Alberic Bruneau...Does anyone have it? Or have they seen it?

Would be happy to mull this over with other Bruneau descendants.
