A contributor has cited material deemed to be pertinent to this story.
      It is described as "simone-dquier".

Simone Déquier, née Robitaille, born October 8th, 1946, passed away after a courageous battle with stomach cancer, on November 3rd, 2024.

She was the fourth child of Joseph and Élise (née Deleurme) Robitaille, born on the family farm in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.

She attended the small country school near her house to start her studies, and switched to the “big” town school, when her siblings started attending it. Her primary goal was to become a homemaker and stay-at-home mother. She later attended Red River College to take her certificate in upholstery.

Simone met Albert Déquier, from St. Claude, while she was in high school, and they married on July 10th, 1965. He was a schoolteacher, and this career led them through many communities, starting in Laurier (MB), moving back to Notre-Dame (MB), and then Gravelbourg (SK), Carnduff (SK) and finally, landing in St. Malo (MB) in 1977. Together, they built a family with four sons: René, Maurice, Réal and Claude.

It was in St. Malo that she decided to pursue her studies, going back to school once her sons were in school. She carpooled to Red River College in Winnipeg for a full year and obtained her certificate in upholstery. They moved to an acreage just outside of St. Malo in 1979 where she launched her upholstery business out of the basement, until they built her a shop attached to the house. She ran her upholstery business until 2002, just after her husband Albert passed away. Throughout her upholstery career, she also maintained her first career as homemaker and mother, always available for her sons when they needed her.

Maman and Papa also ran a grain bin construction business that they started together. It started as a summertime activity and it became an important source of income for the family, paying for postsecondary studies and other expenses for the boys, and creating a new source of revenue during the summer months. She was always part of the crew, including manual labour, driving equipment, and whatever else was needed. She was also the cook, accountant, and she kept the crew on schedule.

Maman was involved in her Church, through different roles, including following the Nathanaël program with Papa. She was a woman of faith, trusting in God’s plan and participating in parish celebrations and activities.

Family was paramount to Simone, and the arrival of grandchildren was an important moment for her; she supported her sons, daughters-in-law and their children. Helping out whenever needed (as nurse, housekeeper, and chauffeur), attending music recitals, dance recitals, sports games, graduations and more. Her grandchildren were a constant source of joy for her, and she loved any time she could spend with them. Their presence would always light up her face.

After Albert’s passing, she was even more devoted to her grandchildren and started to travel, to Brazil, France, Israel, and Medjugorje, as well as within Canada and the USA.

The tragic loss of her son Claude in 2007, was a very difficult moment in her life that marked her significantly.
