It was described specifically or transcribed by them as "MADELEINE MARIE NORMANDEAU (DE MOISSAC); Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2013; MADELEINE MARIE NORMANDEAU (nee DE MOISSAC) October 15, 1917 December 25, 2013 It is with sadness and thankfulness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Madeleine Normand".eau, on December 25, 2013 at the Grace Hospice, Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her husband Raoul (Ralph) and her daughter Yvonne, and all her siblings, most recently her sister Gene in August 2013. Left to celebrate her life are her children Lorraine (Dennis), Michelle, Paul (Judie), her son-in-law Gerry, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from our blended families. Mom was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the fourth of eight children and eldest daughter of Louis d'Hilaire de Moissac and Antoinette de Bussac, She was raised in Cocherie/Biggar area and had a large and close extended family, Her parents and grandparents were "homesteaders" who emigrated from France in the early 1900's. At the young age of 20 Mom left her home by train to enter nursing training at St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. During her first days of training Mom met a fellow student, Phyllis Lippmann, who became her lifelong friend and whom predeceased her in January of 2013. Mutual acquaintances introduced Mom to a young St. Boniface lad, Raoul Normandeau. They were married in Cocherie on April 14, 1940, had four children and lived all of their married life in St. Boniface and Windsor Park area. Mom was a traveler, our Dad was not. So when she wasn't spending time at the cottage at Nutimik Lake with Dad, Mom took opportunities to travel with her sisters, with friends and sometimes with her daughters. After Dad's passing in 1980 and her retirement, Mom continued to travel. She loved Europe, but also spent time in the southern US and cruised the Caribbean. Our Mother was a courageous fighter. She battled breast and bone cancer. Towards the last weeks of her life she fought the intense pain and finally decided enough was enough. Mom was a strong woman. She had a strong and loving heart, a strong will, a strong character and a strong spirit. Above all else Mom was a lady, always well-appointed (in the clothes she mostly made herself). She had great love for her family and we are honoured and blessed to have had her as our Mom. Words cannot describe the profound appreciation we have for the staff of the Grace Hospice. The loving care which all the staff provided with professionalism, sympathy, compassion and good humour brought this family untold comfort throughout Mom's 27 month stay. Mom's ashes have been added to Dad's urn and will be placed in their niche at Glen Lawn Mortuary on January 7 at a ceremony for the family only. A funeral mass and a celebration of Mom's life will take place in May with details to be posted in the Free Press in early May. Should you so wish, donations in Mom's memory will be gratefully appreciated to Hospice & Palliative Care Manitoba, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, R3J 0L3. Desjardins Funeral Chapel (204) 233-4949
